The middle of the day in November

Why late spring is when a utility server earns its keep.

By November the pattern is set. Clear mornings, rooftop systems ramping up across the network, and a stretch around midday when low demand and high solar meet.

That window is when operating envelopes matter most. It is also when a network finds out whether its utility server can keep up: every device that should have its limits has them, the responses come back, and the operations team can see that it all happened.

None of it is dramatic when it works. That is the point. A good day in November looks, from the outside, like nothing happened at all.

Our job over these weeks is mostly watching. We keep a closer eye on the fleet than usual, we talk to our clients more often, and we keep changes to a minimum. Getting ready for summer covers how we prepare. This is the part where the preparation gets tested.
